True Story ...there was holy war over what was to be the A-side of our first single for Murgatroid. (notice how we're onto our fourth or fifth first single?!) Among those in for the boot are Kimwildesongtitle, Wizard Prang, U Can Du and probably something slower ...Sooner Die I'd say. At the time I wouldn't have been a huge fan of Kimwildesongtitle -it had a "sister song" (ie written around the same period and sounding quite similar) called Unforgiven which I much preferred -but it hadn't made the cut when we were in pre -production choosing tracks to press on with. My virulent, naked, wide open and never understated hostility to Wizard Prang was a serious sticking point as it had quite a swell of support within the organisation. It's rare that I turn on one of my own songs so viciously but heh ...the man who never made a mistake never made anything. There's just too much I dislike about the song. I stand by it's core complaint about sticking up statues to people who'd have a case to answer at any balanced war crimes tribunal but for their finishing on the winning side. I just didn't give that complaint particularly eloquent expression is all. U Can Du is and will always be one of my favourite Hitchers songs -though it's got some dodgy lyrics too. Killed It With My Bare Hands though ...that just screamed SINGLE at me. So I did what any reasonable person with an excellent case to make and an armoury of top notch arguments in my candidates favour would do... ...I pussed and I sulked and I muttered to myself until someone, I believe it was Andy Gallagher, snapped and howled "Oh for f***sake will someone give the baby his bottle!!!" Killed It With My Bare Hands was duly elected. We made the Video with Mark Long who'd worked on the She'll Be Sorry promo. |
